What is a psychologist?
Psychologists are experts in human behaviour. They study the way people think, feel, and learn, and use evidence-based strategies and interventions to support people to overcome challenges and to thrive.
Psychologists often work directly with people experiencing a range of mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, as well as other challenges related to relationships, learning, substance abuse, parenting, behaviour, managing the impact of a chronic illness, etc.
The complex work that psychologists do is informed by clinical expertise and empirical research findings. Many psychologists work in academic or research settings, to continue to develop our understanding of human behaviour and evidence-based practice.
